About Me
- Name: Carry Somers
- Location: Ashbourne, Derbyshire, United Kingdom
Founded on a passion for improving the lives of Andean producers and their communities, I am committed to creating a successful, contemporary fashion and accessories business built on the foundation of fair trade. Pachacuti means world upside-down in Quechua and describes my endeavour to redress the inequalities in the fashion industry. Since 1992 I have demonstrated that it is possible to run a successful clothing business which benefits the producers and is environmentally sustainable. My designs are produced by over 700 embroiderers, tailors, knitters and milliners who participate in co-operatives, community groups and mother’s clubs throughout the Andean region. I also support two women’s panama hat co-operatives in Ecuador, providing the principal income for 500 weavers. Based in Ashbourne, at the edge of the Peak District, Pachacuti sells through our shop and two websites. We also supply trade customers around the world with our ‘slow fashion’ collections which include alpaca knitwear and accessories, hand-embroidered childrenswear and our popular Panama and felt hats.
